Wildlife Wonders of Monkey River

Belize’s Jungle & River Adventure

Embark on a thrilling wildlife expedition along Belize’s iconic Monkey River — where lush jungle, winding waterways, and incredible creatures come together for an unforgettable adventure!
Your journey begins at 7:00 a.m., departing from Hopkins Village for a scenic drive south along the Southern Highway. As you pass through charming villages, tropical farmlands, and forested hills, your guide will share stories of Belize’s vibrant culture and natural heritage.
Upon arrival in Placencia, you’ll board a riverboat and cruise 35 minutes along the stunning Caribbean coastline, where turquoise waters meet dense mangrove forests. The excitement builds as you enter the mouth of Monkey River, gliding upstream on a peaceful yet exhilarating ride through one of Belize’s most wildlife-rich ecosystems.
Keep your camera ready — the riverbanks are alive with iguanas basking on logs, turtles slipping into the water, crocodiles lurking in the shallows, and colorful tropical birds soaring above.
Your guide will then anchor along the riverbank and lead you on a guided jungle hike, where the true stars of the tour — the Black Howler Monkeys — echo through the treetops with their powerful calls. As you trek through the rainforest, you’ll also discover medicinal plants, jungle survival secrets, and the delicate balance of this thriving ecosystem.
After the hike, enjoy a delicious traditional Belizean lunch in the laid-back Monkey River Village, a rustic Creole community full of charm and history. On your return journey by boat, your guide will pause near Harvest Caye, a popular spot to spot the elusive West Indian Manatee gliding gracefully beneath the surface.
As you make your way back to Hopkins, you’ll carry with you not just photos, but the sounds, scents, and spirit of Belize’s wild heart — a memory that will stay with you long after your adventure ends.
